On Monday, Jim Heppelmann, PTC Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President of Software Solutions, announced the release of Pro/INTRALINK 8.0, the next generation of their Pro/ENGINEER data management solution.

By updating Pro/INTRALINK to a modern Web architecture based on Windchill technology, the new release more effectively meets the growing needs of PTC customers whose engineering environments have become increasingly distributed and complex.

In addition to the core Pro/ENGINEER data management capabilities Pro/INTRALINK users enjoy today, key features of the new release include:

• Improved usability. Full integration with Pro/ENGINEER so that users can perform all their data management tasks directly within Pro/ENGINEER, resulting in up to 40% fewer mouse clicks for common commands such as finding, downloading and updating models

• Enhanced performance. Expanded support for distributed product development including improved Wide Area Network performance, scalability, security and cross-locale support for higher productivity across multiple engineering locations

• Web integration. Expanded information access enabling non-Engineering users to access product information with just a Web browser

• Expanded PDM capabilities. Document management, lifecycle management, reporting and archiving provide Pro/INTRALINK users with unprecedented levels of productivity, flexibility and control within the Pro/ENGINEER workgroup environment.

Other Announcements
Jim also made several other important announcements Monday:

• PTC is continuing to raise the bar on quality, and is implementing more stringent software quality criteria. To meet the enhanced criteria, the Wildfire 3.0 release will be delayed six months.

• PTC announced two acquisitions today: Polyplan, a innovative company offering advanced manufacturing planning technology; and Aptavis, which offers FlexPLM, based on Windchill.
