3. Transform the surface.
Transform the surface to the next location of the pattern using the copy transform option. The surface should be at the 2nd location in the first row.

4. Pattern the surface transform.
Make a pattern of the surface transform to replicate the surface along the remainder of the first row.

5. Create a flat surface.
Create a flat surface that lies across all the instances. The width of the surface should correspond to the increment in the 2nd direction of the pattern.

6. Merge the surfaces together.
The patterned surfaces will now be merged to the flat surface with a series of merges. For the first merge select the flat surface as the first quilt and the leader of the patterned surface as the second. After this first merge is complete the remainder can be done as a reference pattern.
7. Transform the original quilt.
Transform the original quilt made in step 2 using the no copy option to the 1st location in the 2nd row.
