Baseball, Hot Dogs and Pro/ENGINEER®

With the return of spring, to what do the thoughts of young men turn? Why, baseball of course! A couple of PTC/USER regional user groups (RUGs) have found that the tremendous interest in the upcoming “Wildfire” release of Pro/ENGINEER® coupled with a trip the ball park make for a winning combination.

Recently in San Francisco, the Silicon Valley Pro/ENGINEER users group offered a full program including tips and tricks and a presentation on Pro/COLLABORATE. Following the morning meetings, many members enjoyed a boat show and an afternoon at Pac Bell Park watching the Giants take on the Atlanta Braves. Seventy five lucky attendees won free tickets to the ball game, courtesy of PTC.

In Denver, the Colorado Pro/E User Group (COPUG) held its summer event at the Oxford Hotel. PTC sponsored the location, food and door prizes and a presentation on Wildfire by Chad Jackson, PTC’s Product Line Manager of Assembly and BMX. COPUG had a drawing for two box seats for an upcoming Colorado Rockies game and a number of tickets were also given away for the evening ball game after the RUG meeting.

David Paulson, President of COPUG, reports “attendance was about double the normal size and is indicative of the interest in the new functionality coming in the next release of Pro/E. Questions were asked about nearly every module and there seems to be enhancements to all of them.”

Hosting a social event at a user meeting has benefits beyond increasing attendance numbers. People are better able to absorb information and training when they are having fun. Furthermore, networking with other PTC professionals is an important element for persons who use or maintain software. By developing a network of knowledgeable users, solutions to your Pro/E questions are sometimes only a phone call or e-mail message away, and can be a fast and easy alternative to calling the hotline.

International Growth Continues

We would like to welcome several new user groups to the PTC/USER family. The Iranian Pro/ENGINEER Users led by Professor Hadi Jafari of the Tehran Polytechnic University will host their first meeting in June. The PTC/USER Group of Utah has already begun operations and is holding quarterly meetings at this time. Finally, a new group has been announced in Santiago, Chile, organized by Mr. Enrique Monnetta.

If you would like to join a user group, you can check the list of regional groups at www.ptcuser.org/rugs for an organization in your area. Upcoming meetings are also listed at ptcuser.org.

If you live in an area not currently served by a RUG, maybe you should consider starting one. Contact Linda Rodda, Director of Regional User Groups, for more information (e-mail: Linda@ptcuser.org).
