| It is occasionally necessary to create parts that are mirror images of existing parts.
Pro/DESKTOP offers two options for achieving this: one creates an associative mirrored part that is always a mirror of the initial part regardless of any changes to that part; the other creates a mirrored part that is not associated with the original part. This tip covers just the associative mirror since PTCs help files cover the non-associative mirror solids.
Note the keyway circled in red in Figure 1. This is the feature that is not symmetric. What we are trying to create is a perfect mirror image (shown in Figure 2) that reflects any changes made to the original.

1. Open a new design file (File, New Design).
2. Add the original design as a part (Assembly, Add Component).
3. With the part selected, use the right mouse button to bring up the menu and select Use Component. Make sure that the defaults are as shown, especially the Hide component and the Add material. If desired, you can change the feature name to something more appropriate.

4. Choose OK to make the feature. Although you will probably see no change other than the part changing color, this is a brand new feature, driven entirely by the original part.
