Step 4. Create the inlet. The need for an opening for an air intake came up in the design phase, so now an inlet is required. A new sketch defining the inlet body curves in the side view is inserted before the first surface in the model tree (Figs. 15a-b).

The top view of the inlet body curves is then added after the side view. All of the curves are tied to each other and to the original hood body curves (Figs. 16a-b).

A new Sweep surface is created along the top view sketch of the inlet body curve (as the Trajectory) and the Section is selected from a curve on the side view sketch of the inlet body curve (Fig. 17).

The last surface is created as a Flat surface feature at a Make Datum offset from the top datum through the longitudinal curve from the side view sketch of the inlet body curve. The references for the flat surface come from the top view sketch of the inlet body curves (Fig. 18).

The two new surfaces are merged together and then merged into the main hood surface quilt (Fig. 19).

The last step for the inlet is to create the opening. The curve for trimming in this case is simply projected from the front datum to the angled surface of the inlet, using a relationship for the height and size of the opening based on the inlet body curves. The opening is then trimmed away (Fig. 20).
