The easiest way to get the needed instances into the workspace for access by Pro/ENGINEER is to:
- Open the workspace and select the generic parent for the required instance.
- Select Object, Retrieve Instances. A retrieve dialog appears stating the number of instances being retrieved (Fig. 5).

Figure 5.
If the session of Pro/ENGINEER remains open while the retrieve instances process is taking place, go back to Pro/ENGINEER or open a new session. Select File, Replace. A replace dialog appears with details about the files to be replaced in the session (Fig. 6).

Figure 6.
This dialog is followed by the replace models verification dialog (Fig. 7).

Figure 7.
The Verify command is used to regenerate the instance(s). Saving the generic objects causes the instances to be saved to the workspace so that Pro/INTRALINK establishes or maintains the appropriate relationships. A verify is done by selecting the Verify icon or Tools, Verify from the top menu bar (Fig. 8).

Figure 8. Arrow indicates the Verify command icon.
A secondary window appears listing the instances (Fig. 9). All instances are highlighted by default. If all instances need to be verified, select the Verify button. As the instances are regenerated, the status column indicates success or failure. If the status column shows a failure, interrogate the model to find the cause and Verify again. When the verify is complete, close the family table window and save the model.

Figure 9.
How do you know when to verify a family table? Although the process of verifying instances can be time-consuming, if you dont do a required verify and the generic is checked into the database, Pro/INTRALINK does not acknowledge the existence of instances that are not verifiedeven if they are listed in the family table for the generic.
Verifying a family table is recommended if
- The object is a newly imported family table that has not been in Commonspace before.
- There are changes to the generic that affect all instances.
- Generally, as recommended by PTC, always verify.
It is not necessary to verify if
- An instance is being added to the table. Only verify the new instance (although all instances get marked as modified in the workspace).
