Design-engine.com, a leading online publication focusing on innovation in the design industry, is now accepting entries for its third annual design competition. This year’s event is intended to showcase, in equal measure, photorealism and innovation in modern furniture design. Winners will be selected in several categories, including Best Plastic, Best Metal, Best Translucent, Best Fabric, plus Best Overall.

Here are just a few of this year’s prizes:

  • Two round-trip tickets to London
  • Haworth X 99 chair
  • Steelcase Leap chair
  • Various Nike wristwatches
  • SURFACETOOLS.COM surfacing or rendering workshops

What’s eligible?

Any original computer-generated rendering of a product that enables someone to assume a seated or lounging position. The list includes not only outdoor furniture, sofas, lounges, and bar stools, but also less obvious items such as hot tubs (which let you lounge in a seated position). Products may be created using any design software, including Pro/ENGINEER, Vellum, Alias Studio, MAYA, and Autodesk Inventor.

Who’s eligible?

Industrial designers, product designers, engineers, 3d illustrators, inventors, 3d artists, and students from anywhere in the world. This competition is also open to professional manufacturing and design firms, application engineers from software vendors, and to enthusiasts of environments, seating and furniture design. Members of sponsors’ or jurors’ companies are also eligible to win.

Who’s judging?

A prestigious panel of internationally recognized designers will judge the entries. Panel members include:

  • Patrick Chia, Furniture Designer, Singapore
